Edinburgh photographer Jane Brettle is best known for her striking portraits of women who are innovators in their various professions. Her latest commission covers six of Britain's leading women surgeons. Inspired by the French painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres (1780-1867), her portraits echo the conventions of formal portraiture to prompt the viewer to consider how subjects for institutional portrait collections are chosen and who might have been missing from the faces on the wall.

Exhibition on display in the Inner Hall corridor from Thursday 11 July to Monday 1 December, open daily except Sunday, 9am - 6pm
