[IN] site: a photographic exploration of urban space

Collective [space] are a group of international photographers based in London. Their first exhibition, [IN]site is an exploration of their inner lives through urban space. Drawing on their surroundings, they have each developed a personal language with which to convey their own narrative.

British born Jasmine Falconer studied editorial photography at Brighton University. The series ‘Dark Matters’ focuses on the creative thought process. Heightening everyday urban scenes with night-time atmosphere, the work asks why some unconscious matter undergoes the transformation into ideas. This is the first UK showing of her work.

Fernanda Monteiro’s night-time series explores quiet and deserted scenes around South London. Highly influenced by her upbringing in the unpredictable and unsafe environment of São Paulo, Brazil, her work focuses on themes of fear and freedom from a psychological perspective. Monteiro has been exhibiting since 2005 at venues including the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Born in Germany and raised in Nigeria, Anita Okoro is currently studying photography and sociology at Roehampton University. Okoro explores how the urban environment triggers her childhood memories of Nigeria. Employing the topography of the city to represent specific events, she recalls a time and place which has influenced her way of seeing. Okoro has previously exhibited for Wandsworth Arts Council.

Portuguese-born Marco Pereira is currently studying photography and psychology at Roehampton University. This series investigates industrial landscapes on the periphery of the city at night. Repeatedly visiting these sites, his aim is to recreate the feeling of first discovery. Generating random locations from a range of methods, chance is influential in these nocturnal wanderings. This is the second UK showing of his work.
