LOOP08 at the Menier Gallery

LOOP08 will be showing at the Menier Gallery from July 1 to July 12. This annual
exhibition by a varying group of UK-based artists will show recent, innovative
work arising from personal responses to a diverse range of contemporary issues.
LOOP08 will focus on work created with traditional as well as experimental print
processes, alongside work in a wide range of media and artistic styles. The
following artists are taking part:
Alison Bickmore relates to the evidence or trace of something which stands as
a reminder of the environment’s vulnerabilities.
Alex Booker examines through his working processes the role of the archive, of
fictional narrative and the 'idea' of boats.
Helen Bridges binds together intricate visual worlds, steering us through familiar
spaces and situations extracted from an urban fabric.
Janet Curley Cannon observes the urban environment, capturing its surfaces
and structures at the moment before their destruction and renewal.
Perienne Christian takes internal as opposed to external landscapes, and
analyses the interplay between social values and the status of the individual.
Shuxiang Jin Farrall makes intuitive prints using anthropomorphic forms and
vibrant colour to evoke scenes from her childhood.
Julie Hoyle crosses boundaries between media, creating hybrid prints: her work
includes sculpture, installation and multi-layered digital and screen prints on
paper.
Sam Marshall draws and combines elements from her extensive collection of
found imagery to create new interiors with their own dreamlike narratives.
Ann Norfield works with imagery and materials from the built environment.
Sumi Perera blurs boundaries between the artist and the artisan, the orient and
the occident, past and present.
Bill Pryde makes highly-coloured, emotionally-charged screen prints which
derive from specific personal events and journeys.
Kitty Reford uses conventions such as scale and cultural iconography to
question perception, recognition and characterisation.
Martin Ridgwell creates domestic interiors in which young male protagonists
scrutinize emotions by playing out latent emotional dramas.
Terry Steckler carries out an ongoing psychogeographical exploration into
liminal spaces, celebrating the disconnection, randomness and breakdown of
individual and societal control.
John Tate uses a language of signs and marks to create a landscape that
reflects perceptions of time, memory, transience and the illusion of reality.
