Echo - a new sculpture on the sculpture trail

Cattrell has in recent years focussed closely on the body, often employing scanning processes in her work. For her new work on the Trail, she has explored the topology of the forest using laser scanning, but inevitably returned to the body to construct the final work by manually casting the surface.

This sculpture is physical evidence of contact between the human hand and the hosting landscape, which has been modelled by both industry and nature. That point of contact will be held in a moment, whilst the material of the forest continues to degenerate and collapse, the Echo, in the form of the sculpture, will remain.
