Light Works, Lucy + Jorge Orta

About

How do you turn the world's most famous heritage sites into a canvas for some of the most impressive light projections ever accomplished? What is it like to experience these projections? How is their conception bound up with a profound political and environmental message?

These are some of the questions addressed by a new exhibition of works by renowned artists Lucy+Jorge Orta, whose work, spanning four decades, from ritualistic performances to mail art to breathtaking large-scale light projections onto some of the world's most famous landscapes.

Exploring the context and meaning of these projections through a mixed media exhibition, also the subject of a new title by Black Dog, Light Works includes documentary material, drawings, photographs, video and installation, which recreates and explains the experience and process of Lucy+Jorge's collaborative work.

Lucy+Jorge Orta have collaborated since 1991. They have exhibited their work around the world including the Barbican, London; ICA London; Modern Art Museum Paris; Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney; as well as the Venice, Havana and Johannesburg Biennials. Black Dog Publishing have published three titles with Lucy+Jorge Orta to date, Light Works, Lucy+Jorge Orta Pattern Book: An Introduction to Collaborative Practices and Mapping the Invisible: EU-Roma Gypsies.

Black Dog Space is an independent, non-commerical exhibition space housed at Black Dog Publishing, presenting a programme of four to six new exhibitions per year organised in conjuction with a variety of international artists who have been published in-house. Black Dog Space is not publically funded and all exhibitions are free and open to all.
