PREVIEW: VALERY CHTAK

About

Muscovite artist Valery Chtak seemingly paints anything and everything that falls in his wake. Influenced by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Joseph Beuys, Chtak's monochrome painting covers every surface — tables, chairs, canvases, walls and floors. Propelled by the political ideas of the ‘Anti-Spectacular', Chtak's works evoke the darkness of death, but their enigmatic spirit is full of life, which for him are the mundane objects we ignore and discard. Even in their final form Chtak's paintings retain their anonymous core, lacking titles and explanations. But it is his revelry in the familiar but unknown that makes Chtak so unique and seminal in our modern age of knowledge and accountability.
