We are a dynamic regional Museum and Art Gallery with art, human history and natural history collections displayed across 8 different galleries - world cultures, Egypt, archaeology, local/maritime history and natural history on our ground floor; fine art, decorative art and our Designated Cottonian Collection on our first floor.
We also have a varied and ambitious temporary exhibition programme plus a huge range of events and activities for adults and families on offer throughout the year.
From 17 September to 4 December 2011 we will be one of the host venues for 'British Art Show 7: In the Days of the Comet'.
We have also been working on a programme called 'Looking In Looking Out' since April 2009 which, thanks to funding from Arts Council England and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, is enabling us to commission new works by artists who are based in or have links with the South West.
Level access to our ground floor is available for wheelchair users from the rear of our main building (Tavistock Place). Lift access to our upper floor is also available. We also offer fixed and portable audio loops, mens, ladies and accessible toilets, baby changing facilities, buggy parking, free audio files for your MP3 player (visit www.plymouth.gov.uk/museumfreedownloads) and free resources for schools (visit www.plymouth.gov.uk/museumlearningresources).
Our shop and cafe is open from 10am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday and Bank Holiday Mondays.
Admission to the Museum and Art Gallery is FREE.
