In celebration of The Wapping Project's 10th Anniversary, Gallery Director Jules Wright, has initiated an annual curatorial residency programme to be housed in The Tower of the Wapping Hydraulic Power Station and has invited CHRISTIAN FERREIRA to be the first participant in this curatorial study.

Since opening to the public in October 2000, The Wapping Project, housed in the Grade II listed Wapping Hydraulic Power Station, has been celebrated for its singular combination of challenging contemporary art and performance. The body of work produced by The Wapping Project is the product of twenty year's experience and an un-challenged record of commissioning artists who have become major players in the UK's cultural landscape. www.thewappingproject.com

The Tower is an extraordinary physical space in which to curate which has a presence of it's own and one that needs to be considered by both artists and curator. CHRISTIAN FERREIRA aims to approach the welcome challenges the space offers with respect and careful consideration.

Presenting a singular artwork per exhibition each invited artists is offered the opportunity to create a piece that has considered the unique environment in which it will sit. Traditional exhibitions benefit from a collection of work to relay an idea, whilst in this instance, the success of the exhibition is dependant on the clarity with which the singular piece conveys the artist?s concept. Invited artists include Emer O'Brien who will open the study with a light installation; James R Ford who has had recent successes with his project, Primera Disaster; and an artists exchange with the renowned South African Gallery, Whatiftheworld.
