Past Vyner Street is an inter-disciplinary creative project space nested in the railway arches of East London. It has a distinctively warm and dynamic atmosphere, producing events in which artists, curators and critical thinkers, as well as speakers from non-artistic practices, meet and engage with diverse audiences. The organisation seeks to promote an active dialogue about contemporary art and curatorial practice. The association was set up in the summer of 2010 by artists, curators and writers Sandra Sykorova, Lucile Dupraz and Lara Garcia. Cultural organisation Helvetic Centre is a frequent collaborator, bringing support to Past Vyner Street's European team.
Past happenings have included the projection of a film that playfully depicts the adventures of the artist Melodie Mousset, as she gathers found material in Los Angeles for an installation; a screening of 'Opening Hours' by Spanish film-maker Isabel Maria; the commission of a sound art piece on the theme of collaboration, created in Lithuania by Lina Lapelyte; a temporary bookstore hosted by Edition Patrick Frey, showcasing recent pioneering art publications from Switzerland. In October 2010 we showcased an installation conceived in response to the project space's arched structure by artist Nicolas Feldmeyer.
