About

To mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, we are showing an exhibition which explores the links between war and surgery. Artist Julia Midgley has been given unprecedented access to visit a number of military medical facilities. She has created over 150 reportage sketches showing military surgeons in training and the rehabilitation of servicemen and women after surgery. Works were produced at the Army Medical Services Training Centre, Strensell Camp near York; the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court, Surrey; the Medical Operational Surgical Training course held at the Royal College of Surgeons, London and the training courses at TMW Brize Norton, Oxfordshire. The exhibition has been organized in partnership with the Hunterian Museum at the Royal College of Surgeons and has been supported by Arts Council England, the Sir James Knott Trust and Liverpool John Moores University.
