About

The second of three talks in the CONCEPTION EXECUTION RECEPTION Public Art Behind the Scenes series, Richard Wilson RA and Mark Davy, founder of Futurecity which specialises in art in the public realm and strategic cultural placemaking, presents Richard Wilson's Slipstream, 2014 for Heathrow Terminal 2. At 70 metres long, Slipstream is the longest sculpture in Europe. Combining precision engineering with the sense of velocity and movement of a stunt plane, Slipstream will welcome 20 million visitors per year to London via the new Luis Vidal designed Terminal 2, The Queen's Terminal. Slipstream's design uses cutting-edge computer programming technology, usually employed by the aerospace industry, to accurately translate the volume of an aircraft's movement through space. For one evening only, Wilson and Davy will describe Slipstream's four year journey, revealing how this awe-inspiring sculpture was conceived, executed and realized.
