Danish Contemporary Ceramics at the Ceramic House

About

The work of fourteen internationally renowned ceramicists will be on display at one of the most unique houses in Brighton during Artist Open Houses 2014. The 2014 Artist Open Houses festival will take place in Brighton, Hove and the surrounding area over the four weekends of May. One of highlights of the festival this year will be an exhibition of Danish Contemporary Ceramics at The Ceramic House, featuring fourteen acclaimed ceramicists as well as a new installation from British architectural ceramicist J Kay Aplin. The Danish Contemporary Ceramics show will be the first themed exhibition at The Ceramic House and will feature a cross-spectrum of artforms — sculpture, installation, tableware and wall pieces — creating a significant British exhibition of Danish Contemporary Ceramics. Ceramicists participating in the exhibition include Karen Harsbo, who recently exhibited at the acclaimed Topographies of the Obsolete at Spode Works, British Ceramics Biennial 2013, Christin Johansson, whose innovative works combine ceramics with performance and Royal College of Art graduate Malene Hartmann Rasmussen, whose beautiful surrealist work was shortlisted for the British Ceramics Biennial Award 2013, featuring the best in contemporary ceramics. Kay has transformed her home into The Ceramic House, a spectacular showcase of her ceramic and glass creations, which has been open to the public since 2011 and was awarded Best Artists Open House 2013. Each May, Kay curates exhibitions of contemporary ceramics by emerging and established ceramicists as part of the Artist Open Houses which takes place during Brighton Festival in May. The 2013 show was widely acclaimed with 21 leading international ceramists exhibiting their works.
