Monument: Aftermath of War and Conflict

About

Monument is a new exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, organised as part of a series of inter-connected exhibitions of contemporary art in England and France. It marks the 100th anniversary of the First World War and the 70th anniversary of the Normandy landings. On display are works of art which are clearly intended as monuments, alongside those which challenge the concept, or use their attributes to challenge expectations. There are also surprises, showing how artists have responded to the theme with great variety and creativity, sometimes rethinking their work in a new light and making it afresh.
