Lucas Foglia's new show: Frontcountry, will open at the Michael Hoppen Gallery March 28. Frontcountry focuses on people living in the midst of a mining boom in the modern American West.

About

Lucas Foglia grew up on a small family farm in New York and graduated from Brown University and the Yale School of Art. Foglia's first monograph, A Natural Order, was published by Nazraeli Press in 2012 to international critical acclaim. Foglia's photographs have been widely exhibited in the United States and in Europe, and are in the permanent collections of museums including the Denver Art Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Victoria and Albert Museum, London. Nazraeli Press just published Foglia's second monograph, Frontcountry. Frontcountry focuses on people living in the midst of a mining boom in the modern American West. 'This little town has nothing. It's dying on the vine. But when the company opens a mine here, it'll bring jobs and make everything in town bigger and better. There are people who want that boost to the community. I'm not one of them. The mine will ruin this mountain and you'll never find land this beautiful anywhere else.' Randy Stowell, Big Springs Ranch, Oasis, Nevada 2012 Between 2006 and 2013, Lucas Foglia traveled throughout rural Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Wyoming, some of the least populated regions in the United States. Frontcountry is a photographic account of people living in the midst of a mining boom that is transforming the modern American West. Nazraeli Press will publish the project in 2014. Michael Hoppen Contemporary in London will exhibit the photographs. URL: Twitter: http://atnd.it/7995-0 Artists / Speakers: Lucas Foglia, Randy Stowell
