About

Simon Denny and Aleksandra Domanovià„௿½ discuss their forthcoming exhibitions at firstsite, Colchester, with Senior Curator Michelle Cotton.

Denny௿½s first UK solo exhibition, The Personal Effects of Kim Dotcom, is inspired by the recent rise and fall of New Zealand entrepreneur Kim Dotcom, whose file sharing platform Megaupload was the subject of FBI investigation on charges of criminal copyright infringement. The influence of media and technology upon contemporary culture is further developed in Domanovià„௿½à¯¿½s exhibition From yu to me, [SIC] which looks at the history of the Internet domain ௿½.yu௿½ against the backdrop of the political turmoil in Eastern Europe and the violent dissolution of the Yugoslavian state towards the end of the 20th Century.

Simon Denny was born in Auckland, New Zealand (1982). Selected solo exhibitions include: The Personal Effects of Kim Dotcom, Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig wien (Mumok), Vienna, 2013; All You Need Is Data, Petzel Gallery, New York, 2013;

All You Need Is Data, Kunstverein Munich, Munich, 2013; Full Participation, Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, 2012; and Envisaging Vocational Rehabilitation, Westfälischer Kunstverein, Münster, 2012.

Recent solo and two-person exhibitions include: Art Basel, Miami Beach (with Oliver Laric), 2013; LISTE 18, Basel (with Calla Henkel and Max Pitegoff), 2013; The Future Was at Her Fingertips, Tanya Leighton, Berlin, 2013; Turbo Sculpture, SPACE, London, 2012; Frieze New York: Focus (with Oliver Laric), 2012; Aleksandra Domanovic & Oliver Laric, Villa du Parc ௿½ Centre d௿½art Contemporain Annemasse 2012; and From yu to me (curated by Adam Szymczyk), Kunsthalle Basel, 2012.
