About

McAllister Thomas Fine Art of Godalming are delighted to announce that they will be holding a special collection of works by internationally collected artist Karen Edwards, RWA. Born in Lambeth in 1961, Karen studied fine art at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne between 1980 and 1984 under Professor Norman Adams, graduating with a first class honours degree. During her degree she was awarded a number of scholarships including the John Christine scholarship The Hatton Prize and the Annabel Winship Smiles travelling scholarship. Following her degree Karen travelled extensively through Africa and the Far East. She has lived in such countries as Cameroon, Vietnam, Thailand, Kenya and a small island called Kiribati in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Now living in Bristol Karen draws inspiration from the many walking trips she takes around Cornwall and the South West. Her sketch pad and pencil is always at hand together with her camera so that raw material and inspiration is always being gathered from nature. Karen works predominately in oil from the references collected and transfers these images and observations onto to canvas to capture the drama of the ever complex skies culminating in brooding rain studies, bleak snow scenes or warm balmier seascapes. The result is a painting that captures a dreamlike quality and beauty. The exhibition runs from the 14th February until the 4th March 2014.
