About

Join us on the evening of the 7th February, between 7 - 9pm for the preview of the Summerhall Visual Arts Programme with a special musical performance by The Sexual Objects. Neu! Reekie! will be hosting the left-field pop rock magic fronted by Davy Henderson with their very own limited edition Aberfeldy single malt on offer to warm your cockles! Summerhall is dedicated to supporting Scottish culture, and has naturally, teamed up with the prolific Neu! Reekie! duo on two aspects of the visual arts programme, with co-founder Kevin Williamson presenting short films inspired by the Queen of Disco, Donna Summer in ‘Love to Love You Baby' and Neu! Reekie! support for the late Colin Jarvie's photographic works in the exhibition ‘In Praise of Shadows'. Exhibitions range from the politically charged to the re-conceptualisation of art history and queries into temporality and collective understanding. Stefan Rollof portrays the plight of refugees in ‘NSA (Not So Apparent)' whilst Ian Hughes' ‘Unearthed Tongues Set Free' examines the atrocities of the Holocaust whilst artists such as Stephanie Mann and Thomas Anderson represent the exceptional talent of recent Scottish graduates. Mann's ‘Inherit this Mango' is a contemporary homage to the still life genre and Anderson adapts memorable fiction works to explore the punctuation of life in ‘Rest Assured'. Swedish artist Karin Gunnarsson will be unveiling her ghostly ‘Apparition' installation whilst a collection from Heart Fine Art of Dieter Roth ephemera stands as a poignant reminder of the transcendental nature of creativity. Summerhall is simultaneously launching ten exhibitions, committed to exhibiting Scottish and international artists, established and new, offering something for everyone.
