Lupercalia: Primitive Love

About

'Lupercalia: Primitive Love' explores the contemporary artistic response to the raw and primeval origins of Valentine's Day. Originally celebrated through highly sexualised and potent rituals, the celebration in our time has been hijacked by commercial interest and is now engulfed by sanitised imagery, flowers and cards. This show challenges the commercialisation of the 'day of love' as we know it, by revisiting its primal roots in a celebration of the visceral force of human relationships, both emotional and carnal. The exhibition is composed of paintings, prints, sculpture and text based work by established artists such as David Shillinglaw, Hayden Kays, Samual Miller, Christos Tolera and emerging talent including Fee Greening, Pascale Wilson, Kate Linforth and artistic duo Andie Macario and Victor Ivanov. The breadth of artistic interpretation and expression contained within the show provides a fascinating insight into an age-old and universal theme.
