Foundling Museum Artist in Residence, Lucy Cash, with special guest - writer, Deborah Levy

About

On 25th March 1741 the first ever foundling child was admitted to the Hospital's care at Hatton Garden, London. On the 272nd anniversary of this date, the Museum's first artist in residence, Lucy Cash, shares her discoveries during her three month residency.

Lucy has been undertaking an Artquest-supported research residency at the Foundling Museum over the last few months. Her research has led her into conversations with many of the museum staff and volunteers as well as immersion in almost a kilometre of shelved materials detailing the Foundling Hospital's history. She has responded to this wealth of material through small performative interventions in the Museum as well as writing and image-making. Heartened and inspired by Deborah Levy's 'Things I Don't Want To Know' (a response to George Orwell's 1946 essay 'Why I Write'), Lucy has invited Deborah to join an in-conversation event with her about notebooks, the slipperiness of time, the politics of motherhood and learning how to interrupt.
