About

Join us in the moment between all that is calm and chaotic!!!

We present the exciting work of UK-based artists, Jamie Lau, Cindie Gottlieb-Cheung and Andrew Lim in a sculptural show, developed by CFCCA, that takes the project title ?Tipping Point? as its theme.

The work exhibited is the result of an on-going dialogue between the three artists, who have shared working methods and exchanged ideas about the medium of sculpture. They discussed how sculpture could take on a wider meaning, as a term to describe an approach to working, rather than a medium bounded by traditional materials. Each artist shows their own interpretation of this, presenting a narrative played out in space through unconventional methods.

Lau takes global news as a starting point for his sculptural forms, Gottlieb-Cheung translates female representation from objects and gestures into video, and Lim discovers, through reconfigurations of everyday objects, new narratives formed by the very process of ?making?. Each focuses on a moment of change; on the limbo state between stability and chaos, inviting audiences to become part of the tipping point.

About the artists:
Jamie Lau is a recent MA Graduate from Slade who has exhibited nationally since 2006; at galleries including Fold Gallery, London, TAG Fine Arts (as part of London Art Fair), The Projection Gallery, Liverpool, and has showcased his European solo exhibition at
Respire, Centro de Cultura Antigo Instituto, Gigon, Spain. He was awarded the Axis Web MA Stars in 2012 and is a familiar face to CFCCA, since completing a Whisper Residency with us in 2010.

Cindie Gottlieb-Cheung is a Danish artist based in London, who first worked with us in 2010 as a Whisper artist-in-residence. Since graduating from her MA at RCA in Sculpture in 2011, she has exhibited both nationally and internationally, including at Hoxton Square projects for Future Map 09, winning the 176/Zabludowicz Collection Future Map Prize, Hobbs Maclaughlin Gallery, London, CalArts, Los Angeles, and Etcetera Gallery to name but a few.

Andrew Lim is a Manchester based artist, currently at the neighbouring Ancoats based art studios, Rogue. Lim graduated from Manchester School of Art in 2007 and has exhibited at Castlefield Gallery and Untitled Gallery as well as recently showcasing with Carter Presents in London. Lim has also previously exhibited at CFCCA as part of our First Step showcase space. We are very excited to welcome all three artists back to CFCCA to exhibit in Gallery 1.
