About

The main premise of Anne's work is responding to collections and the placement of made and found objects. She makes small-scale three-dimensional works, mainly in the media of ceramics that are carefully selected to sit independently or within a group, sometimes amongst man-made or natural items.

Working as artist in residency at the Heatherwick studios, Aberystwyth Arts Centre in the summer of 2013, Anne explored the contrasting landscapes in and around the areas of Aberystwyth. This has been a major source of inspiration for her most recent body of work. She has documented images, collected natural materials and altered the findings to inform my ideas. These works are a visual recording of Anne's surroundings and a personal interpretation of responding to a new environment.

Having moved from printmaking to ceramics, Gibbs brings a particular sensibility to her work in clay and her combinations can also be compared to the elements of drawing, deconstructed and re-presented in three dimensions. Arranged on painted wooden bases and intended for cabinet display, each surreal yet poetic composition entails meticulous, prolonged consideration; selection and placement are everything.
