Miye Cho: STARE INTO DEATH
About
Miye ChoSTARE INTO DEATH
Miye Cho has created a new body of gestural and colourful paintings on silk which examine aspects of life and death from a perspective of close personal loss. Her work flows between still life and evocative landscapes, often incorporating images derived from studies of plants, leaves and trees, depicting nature in various states of growth and decay. Her paintings are Western 'memento mori' combined with sensibilities steeped in Korean tradition.
A crucial aspect within her new work is the acceptance of death as an inevitable and positive force for life. Her paintings are fields where memories, the uncanny, a sense of the past that is physically and spiritually interrupting the 'Here and Now' of the present, are played out in a space evoking the interval between life and death.
Within her work is a deep and positive sense of being aware of the essential and important beauty within every moment of every day of life.
