For the Love of Money

About

Epoch Art Gallery are pleased to present Lewis Bannister's first ever solo show. The show entitled 'For the Love of Money' will open on November 24th 2012, at Epoch Art Gallery's new exhibition space. Lewis will be showcasing his signature Mickey Doodles series on US $1 bills and the new Dennis's Doodles series on Bank of England £1 notes. Also on show will be a collection of drawings from Lewis's black book, and new works on ply-wood boards.
After growing up in what is probably the worst place for artistic inspiration in Wood Green London, Lewis's art teacher handed him a copy of 'Spraycan art' which stopped him from getting a 'proper job' and inspired him to create. Since 1997 Lewis has gone from style to style and finds it hard to pigeon hole himself when asked what his 'style' is. After passing a few college courses and being accepted into St. Martins, but then deciding to go to London Metropolitan University, he left Uni after a week when he was asked to write! In 2002 he used the tag 'jive' a regrettable name but it stuck and then became his tag. 'Jive' sold sluggishly worldwide for a 10 year period. In 2011 he met Ben Oakley and after taking his advice he decided that he would leave 'jive' and use his real name and again change styles. Lewis now likes to paint on unusual surfaces.
