About

During July, the space will be a crucial place to meet and watch 2010 World Cup fixtures. The Shebeen will also provide music and dancing. It is there as a representation for a traditional sense of community, identity, and belonging for Redchurch Street and the cultural heritage of old East London. ‘KwaZulu-Natal'is a stunning visual collage that presents the viewer of a kaleidoscopic universe photographed in around the artists home during the period he lived in South Africa. During the exhibition The Maurice Einhardt Neu Gallery sets up a 'Shebeen' (Juke joint, Speakeasy) at the ‘KwaZulu-Natal' Exhibition selling ‘JJ umqom- bothi' and providing patrons with a place to meet and discuss political and social issues unifying the community and providing a safe place for discussion. His work is characterised by short performances adequate to changes that the space experiences constantly. No performance is ever repeated and every experience is entirely unique to each space.
