OVADA Gallery showcases the best new work by emerging artists in the South East

About

Seventeen artists have been selected by open submission, bringing together a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, installation, sculpture, animation and sound to celebrate diversity amongst new talent. The work covers a wide range of themes and concerns including direct and innovative responses to the city of Oxford. Two of the exhibiting artists have created new work responding specifically to the location of the gallery within Gloucester Green Coach Station. Tom Davis' Bus Stop explores notions of travel around Oxford, inviting visitors to depart on audio journeys on a number of the city's bus routes. James Winnett presents a multi-layered installation comprising artefacts and technological devices to portray an uneasy sense of an absent character, surveying life outside the gallery. The Oxford Contemporary also includes off-site work such as Paula Lucido's two short films, Mostro and Bambola, to be shown at the Old Fire Station Theatre (adjacent to OVADA) on the opening night, Friday 6 February. Join the artists and a special guest speaker for an informal exhibition tour and discussion about their practice. Saturday 28 February at 2pm: free — just turn up.
