About

Admission free Please go to www.own-it.org/events to register and reserve your place. While the spotlight is normally on the actors on the stage, this event will focus on the people back stage, such as the set designer, the make-up artist, the costume and lighting designer, the composer and the musicians. We will discuss what rights you have when you are working behind the curtains of a theatre. What clauses you should be aware of in your contract. Whether, as an author, you have the right to object to derogatory treatment of your work, to be named as the author of the play, and to receive royalties for its use. What happens when the play goes on tour, and whether you can you use your designs or ideas for another production. Own-it and the Arcola Theatre have invited a legal expert, who will give an overview of intellectual property rights involved in the various sectors of work produced behind the scenes in the theatre. A theatre director and several practitioners working in the theatre back stage will share their experiences of negotiating contracts and making the most of their designs.
