Panel Discussion: Artist-led Spaces — Then and Now

About

Chaired by Dave Beech this Panel Discussion will look at the history of artist-led galleries in the UK over the last 20 years and discuss the role of such spaces today. More on the speakers: Dave Beech is an artist in the collective Freee. He lives in London and teaches at Chelsea College of Art. He is a regular contributor to Art Monthly and is represented by International 3 gallery. Simon Bedwell was the longest-serving member of the London art group BANK (b.London 1991, d.Chicago 2003), which ran Gallerie Poo Poo with a string of high-energy shows until it was time to stop and do ordinary art like everybody else, which they showed at other people's galleries. Since 2003 Simon Bedwell has exhibited at the ICA, Saatchi Gallery, Piccadilly Underground concourse, and in Leipzig, Glasgow, Vienna and Norwich. Solo shows have been at White Columns, Ritter/Zamet, Platform, MOT and Rental (LA), and there'll be a new one at Studio Voltaire in January. Paul Sullivan is the Director of Static, Liverpool, an organisation that carries out its ideas through the processes of art, architecture, critical writing, business and trade.
