About

The Labyrinth Project This exhibition which concludes the project allows artists to present their response to the labyrinth motif to the public. The labyrinth is not a maze. It is not a puzzle surrounded by a high wall, but is an elaborate path, marked out on a flat surface, enclosed in a boundary line, and leading to a central point. Anyone can freely walk across a labyrinth, completely ignoring the marked path. Following the path is a ritualised journey, leading to a central point. Labyrinths have been created in a range of contexts by a number of different cultures. No one really knows what was the original symbolic meaning, though there are many theories! A central theme of this project is the exploration of the meanings that artists, workshop participants and members of the public find for themselves.
