The Established - Paul Needham

About

Bureau is proud to present 'The Established', Paul Needham's first solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition features new works and takes its title from the realisation of one of a series of ideas generated during the artist's two-month research and production residency at Bureau in 2007. 'The Established' was made during Needham's time in residence at Bureau, in response to the physicality of the gallery space. The work plays upon the idea of a contradiction between an understanding of objects and actions, particularly in relation to sculpture. The exhibition also features two newly commissioned works 'A Reply To A Rejoinder' and 'A Last Untimely Manifesto'. Created especially for the exhibition, these works draw and expand on ideas and research initiated during his residency period. MORE ON PAUL NEEDHAM: Paul Needham (b. 1972) lives and works in Manchester, UK. He studied BA Art & Social Context at U.W.E, Bristol, and completed MA Fine Art at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2002. He has exhibited extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA. Needhams practice incorporates drawing, film, installation and sculpture. His previous works have engaged with the notion of repetition in contemporary culture, explored attitudes to work ethic, and ideas at play in aspects of minimalist sculpture.
