SLEEPWALKING: ROBERT DAVIES

The Fine Art Society will be holding an exhibition of stunning abstract photographic works based on the night sky by Robert Davies. Inspired by Arthur Koestler´s book, ´The Sleepwalkers´, in his new works Davies uses photography in a manner that is more akin to painting or drawing. By using photography´s unique ability to abstract the passage of time onto a negative he has spent much of the last twelve months working through the night recording star constellations as the earth rotates on its axis. By exposing each negative for a long period, or making multiple exposures, Davies allows the stars to make marks in both controlled and serendipitous ways. He has also developed a turntable specifically to exploit this practice.
