About

Margaret's work is mainly, but not exclusively, abstract. She likes to play with hiding and revealing, and barely legible text is a current theme. She wants the viewer to be intrigued by what they see. When a figure appears, it is usually a woman (or part of), and themes of entrapment/escape often reappear. Her paintings and collages are psychological landscapes where colour is key, with acrylic as the medium. Jo's work is mainly hand thrown or hand built ceramics, which are individually hand painted with intricate patterns and then glazed with a transparent glaze. Her designs are very much influenced by images taken from nature and her surroundings. She is fascinated by the movements and patterns created by water, reflections and light. She is particularly interested in how colours, patterns and form can make sense of random chaotic images and how a flat pattern can distort into the curved shape of a bowl to do this.
