Test of Time: Stephen Goodman & Others

About

Whilst featuring a small selection of our gallery artists, this exhibition has a particular emphasis on showcasing the abstract painterly works of upcoming artist Stephen Goodman. Whilst originally from Oxfordshire, Goodman achieved his BA (Hons) in Fine Art Painting at Bath Spa University, School of Art & Design. Having appeared in group shows in Bath and London, Goodman has graduated and returned to Oxfordshire, and is now celebrating his first solo show ‘Test of Time' at High House Gallery. Goodman's abstract paintings are very much an outcome of an open ended process, and for him they hold a significant affiliation with the seismic occurrences that occur on our planet. Under Goodman's authority as creator, time, gravity, instability and chance bring the formlessness of fluids in to a state of coagulation until an eventual arrangement is realised through the drying process. Goodman has a particular admiration for the spectacular otherworldliness of the Icelandic landscape. Art is a way for him to connect with this in some respect, is it to practice a forged involvement with something unattainable. A fascination with the unstoppable power of time is evident in Goodman's artwork, as he continually engages with and manipulates it, as an aid for creation. Time is something that we may often wish we could control or gain. We are unable to control time, but Goodman's paintings strive to embrace this lack of control and relish in the offering of progression, a natural component of time, and the joy of the unknown. Works exhibited are available for purchase. Champagne View: Thursday 16th October 5-8pm This exhibition will run from 18th September — 2nd November 2014 Open Thursday — Sunday 12 — 6pm
