About

Happy Time is a Grosvenor public and community art project curated by Simon Oldfield with a new, site-specific installation by Michael Pybus and a programme of free public events ' open to everyone, every day.

Pybus transforms an anonymous retail space at 77 Duke Street into a utopic celebration of the artificial. Enveloping and comforting, a plastic palace made from mass-produced materials. You're invited to a saturated world surrounded by the detached familiarity of consumer products, brands, celebrity and iconography.

This homage to consumer culture, with the translation of subversive design into motifs appropriated by high street brands, is an invitation to everyone to take some time out. Settle into the comfort of an ergonomically molded plastic chair, sharpen up with an express manicure, dial down with guided meditation, listen to a short story read aloud, or simply step inside Pybus' artificial reality.

Michael Pybus' work is a visual pop mash up of remix and reconfiguration. His prints, sculptures and arrangements ' often low-fi techno creations, mine the archive of contemporary iconography, placing a framework of post conceptual and internet art around 'bad' television icons, Pokemon and 90's rave. The artist's avatars, symbols and recycled figures hint towards both the absurdities and earnestness of fanatical consumption and post market nostalgia. Pybus lives and works in London.
