About

MONTHLY TALK - CORINNA GARDNER THURSDAY 2 OCTOBER 2014 LIGHTHOUSE, BRIGHTON TALKS ON DIGITAL ART, CULTURE AND FILM ON THE FIRST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH Step behind the scenes and get a glimpse of the thinking motivating the digital world's greatest artists, thinkers and doers. Curator of Contemporary Product Design at the V&A, Corinna Gardner is our speaker for October. What impact does design have on the world, and how can we examine it? Joining us for our October Monthly Talk is Corinna Gardner, Curator of Contemporary Product Design at London's V&A. Alongside ”Š½Senior Curator of Contemporary Architecture, Design and Digital, Kieran Long and the team at the V&A, Corinna is co-curator of the critically acclaimed Rapid Response Collecting display, a continually adaptive dialogue into the real-world impact of contemporary design. Talking on the creation of the exhibition, Corinna will lead us through the curation process of one of the V&A's most unusual presentations — what is important to include, and how do we tell a story about it? A constantly adaptive, evolving space, Rapid Response Collecting reacts to the growing immediacy to discuss contemporary concerns in design, from the issues facing the future of manufacturing, to the politics of an object. Including objects from the 3D printed gun to Katy Perry eyelashes, Rapid Response addresses the relationship between innovation and society by showing the real-world impact of design on the wider world. Over the course of six months, the display changes, with each object time stamped with the date of their collection at significant points in time. About the speaker Corinna Gardner is curator of contemporary product design at the Victoria and Albert Museum. On joining the newly established Contemporary Architecture, Design and Digital team in January 2013, Corinna has worked with colleagues to introduce Rapid Response Collecting as a new strand to the museum's collecting activities. Alongside looking for the next object to add to the collection, Corinna is co-curating the forthcoming V&A exhibition All of This Belongs to You opening on 1 April 2015. Prior to joining the V&A Corinna worked at Barbican Art Gallery on exhibitions including OMA Progress, Bauhaus: Art as Life and Cory Arcangel's Beat the Champ. Date: Thursday 2 October 2014 Venue: Lighthouse, 28 Kensington Street, BN1 4AJ Times: Doors 6.30pm, Talk at 7pm. Tickets: £3, Eventbrite.
