About

Doomed Gallery presents Twine, a group show presenting work of eight female artists. As a collective of practitioners, our shared commonality is our tendency to subvert the familiar, embroiling the quotidian with tension and character. Twine runs from the 23rd to the 26th October 2014. The presented works include photography, video, text and sound.

The show's title is reflective of the fact that each artist comes to the whole as an individual, not bound by methodologies or the media employed, rather by a common language of subversion and the desire to engage the viewer as both spectator and collaborator.

Like the three planes of existence in Dante's 'Divine Comedy' (Heavens, Earth and Hell), artists explore external (social), domestic and internal (psychological) dimensions from a feminine perspective.

The sound artist Georgina Brett will be performing from 19:30 at the opening on Thursday 23rd October.

An introduction to the artists:
Georgina Brett explores music, language, emotion and verbal & non-verbal communication, through the medium of voice and electronics.
Natalie Dawkins questions and explores how we construct our identity in relation to new media.
Gabriela Fabrowska's current body of work sees her experimenting with image making technologies as a subject.
Camilla Greenwell combines the theatrical and performance to produce images that question human experience and emotion.
Hester Jones is concerned with the formation of gendered subjectivities in a patriarchal society.
Federica Landi explores the system of signs and symbols that is originated the man's interaction with the space he inhabits.
Tracey McEachran employs constructed sets and still life photography, utilising a common language to explore feelings of alienation and discord.
Elisa Noguera investigates the relationship between looking and touching, surface, shapes, materials and gestures.

This exhibition is part of Doomed Gallery's Photomonth programme.
