About

Taking its name from the 54 countries on the continent, 1:54 returns as a leading platform for artists, galleries, curators, independent art centres and institutions dedicated to promoting African and Africa related art practices and projects. Last October 1:54 welcomed over 5,000 visitors, including collectors, curators and critics from across the globe, who gathered to experience London's first commercial contemporary African art fair. Ever committed to exploring new perspectives and voices, the selected exhibitors for 1:54's second edition will hail from global territories including Kenya, South Africa, France, Italy, Germany, UK and USA to showcase over 100 emerging and established international artists. Coinciding with Frieze Week, the new fair builds on the burgeoning popularity of contemporary African art and presents an exclusive opportunity to explore a rapidly emerging contemporary art market. The fair's redesign, to embrace both the East and West Wings of Somerset House, is being devised by young London based architecture and design studio, RA Projects, established in 2009 by Rashid Ali. Adjaye Associates, the practice of the award-winning architect David Adjaye, selected RA Projects for the forthcoming edition.
