Aran’s work focuses on portraiture and the depiction of the human figure in textiles, through the use of recycled fabrics and intricate appliqué and stitch processes. Using traditional hand embroidery skills in a contemporary way is a key element to her work, which seeks to transcend the traditional boundaries of textile craftwork.

A recurring theme in her work has been women and children and their social situation - particularly on predicaments associated with poverty. Those pieces focused on poverty are intended to serve as an appeal on the subjects’ behalf and also as an indictment of social conditions which still persist in parts of the developing world even in the 21st century.

Aran exhibits locally, nationally and internationally and has won multiple awards for her work. Images and more information can be seen at
