Summer Artists in Residence 2014

About

Howard Dyke and Clare Price are both painters working in London. They will complete a collaborative residency in response to the space, culminating in a final outcome in September 2014. For their press release they have written a short poem as they felt this to be a more natural way to talk about their work than writing text describing exactly what they are about and what they want to achieve during the residency. They also didn't wish to talk about themselves and their work, Howard's being more figurative, Clare's head in abstraction. The residency is an experiment for them - they are going to accumulate their crossovers and differences, materiality versus imagery, with strong leanings towards intuition, formalism, hopefully some humor, probably some dissatisfaction, but plenty of affection. We love feelings. Our painting comes from the body When people say painting is like baking we say no! It's not the same thing. Not cooking, not even about looking, . Colour field not colour filled, Atrocious not process, Minimalism not Liminalism, We grind our bones into hope. Sinews, cartilage ripped and woven into substrate Spit and gash on this wreckage — That's the message. Drain the lakes — A painting's been murdered. Clare Price and Howard Dyke won't bake cakes We're no makeweights, Where the ghost of Frankenthaler waits to judge us. Oh dear God please help us! Supported by Paul Robinson at Winsor & Newton
