Vibrant and diverse group exhibition showcasing 10 of the best and brightest emerging contemporary sculptors

About

The RBS Bursary Awards 2014 is a vibrant and diverse group exhibition which will showcase 10 of the best and brightest emerging contemporary sculptors: Samuel Adams Ӣ Neil Ayling Ӣ Gillian Duffy Ӣ Beatrice Haines Ӣ Marguerite Humeau Ӣ Emma Hunter Ӣ Virgile Ittah Ӣ Hollie Mackenzie Ӣ Ana Catarina Pereira Ӣ Gloria Zein. This year's winners explore topics ranging from the supernatural to the psychological to feelings of exile and nostalgia to the power of feminism in media as diverse as wax, carved wood and magnetic finger dust. The spirit behind this diverse and exciting talk series is perhaps summarised best by Hannah Barry, Director and Curator of Hannah Barry Gallery: The Royal British Society of Sculptors Annual Bursary Awards acknowledge the diverse challenge laid down to artists in this 21st Century: sculpture is one of the more difficult negotiations of progress one can choose to embark on in this world but here are ten artists who have the courage to make real in the world through sculpture (in all its broad applications) new means of seeing and being. The RBS Bursary Awards, now in their 14th year, have consistently selected artists who have now become amongst the most important sculptors of their generations and they provide vital support when artists are making the transition to professional practice. Bursary winners receive free membership to the largest and oldest sculpture association in the United Kingdom with access to the unique RBS mentoring scheme, a community of nearly 600 practising sculptors, opportunities to apply for residencies, awards, exhibitions, as well as to present talks. Private View: Wednesday 17 September 2014 6.30 - 8.30pm Visit the RBS site for more details
