On the 18th of September we are throwing open the doors of our new venue to launch our Arts Council England funded programme; Performance Art Faction with the inaugural Soapbox Session event.

The Soapbox Sessions are a series of curated artists talks and interventions exploring contemporary performance art and the mediums innate political potency. Each session, three invited artists will discuss & present their work in dialogue with each other.

Gender: A Soapbox Session says bye bye to binary relations and explores the myriad incarnations of gender representation from the perspective of three internationally renowned performance artists: Amber Hawk Swanson, Kris Grey and Hugh O'Donnell.

Through the individual practices of our invited guests and the sharing of personal experience, Gender: A Soapbox Session seeks to open a space in which feminist narratives, contemporary masculinity and queer theorising can blend and rut, facilitating new thought and ways of being bodies in the world.

So get on your Soapbox, with us and remember:

“Let's stop pretending that we have all the answers, because when it comes to gender, none of us is fucking omniscient.” ―Kate Bornstein, Gender Outlaws: The Next Generation
