'Because Of The Sun' by Cat Stevens
Private View: Thursday 4th September, 7-10pm, Free entry
Daily: 5th-29th September, 9am-5pm, Free entry
In her latest series ‘Because of the Sun’ Cat Stevens depicts the everyday experience transformed. Notions of time and the significance we bring to it are contemplated. There is both a frankness to how the absurdity in the ordinary is captured and a delicate yearning to find its meaning.
'Because Of The Sun' has been selected for Time Out First Thursdays Top 5 Exhibitions for September 2014.
Cat Stevens' photography depicts the mysticism inherent in the natural world and transcends our experience of the everyday to the magical, through a subtle play between darkness and light. Whether shooting landscapes or portraits, her sense of colour and light creates a narrative where inanimate forms are brought to life and the living are imbued with an otherworldly quality.
Past projects include a residency in Northern Sweden to witness the last transit of Venus of our lifetime and The Subterraneans, a series inspired by the Jack Kerouac novel.
Cat Stevens’ work draws influence from music, film and literature, which is evident in both her personal and commercial work. She has worked with a variety of commercial clients from The Tate Modern to artist PJ Harvey.
Her first monograph, ‘Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams’ was published in 2012 and accompanied a solo exhibition at Claire De Rouen / Exit Gallery in London.
