About

NORTH HOUSE GALLERY is delighted to present exciting new work by Esmond Bingham, an artist who always managed to produce work and exhibit alongside his teaching commitments. Since freed from those commitments he has been able to develop his quirky, but immaculately precise, constructions to a new level of intricacy, with the introduction of unexpected colour. Esmond Bingham finished teaching on architectural and design courses at Middlesex (and previously Westminster) University two years ago. Nevertheless, it has been something of a surprise to him that the strange parallel realities of technically drawn projections and architectural models have provided the starting point for these new works. He positively embraces both ordinary materials and — in this exhibition — the rectilinear format: the challenge is to derive something unexpected from this conventional legacy. After Foundation at Ulster College of Art & Design (1968-9) he studied at Woverhampton Polytechnic (1969-72), trained as an art teacher at Goldsmiths (1969-72) and later took his MA from Norwich School of Art and Design (1997-9). Based in Suffolk, he has shown widely in East Anglia, in London and abroad.
