About

Figurative art is more than ever at the forefront of contemporary art practice and is always a subject of debate. With many high profile art prizes tending towards conceptual and abstract works, The Threadneedle Prize deliberately sets out to examine Figurative Art Today to produce a comprehensive current survey. The seventh edition of The Threadneedle Prize will champion the most interesting figurative artists working in the UK and Europe today. It is also one of this country's most valuable art prizes, offering the winning artist a cash award of £20,000, along with his or her own exhibition at Mall Galleries in 2015. All works are for sale, offering collectors the opportunity to invest in works from established as well as up and coming artists. In a further development, this year's Threadneedle Prize exhibition will include a new ‘curated' section, where our survey of contemporary figurative painting and sculpture will be reinforced by a thought-provoking complement to the open exhibition. This year's special Guest Curator is Sacha Craddock, the independent art critic, writer and curator. The selection panel for this year's open competition comprises the highly regarded Arts Commissioning Editor and Art Critic at The Times, Nancy Durrant; internationally exhibited and collected sculptor, Kevin Francis Gray; Independent Advisor and Curator at the Hiscox Collection, Whitney Hintz; and Gallerist and Founder of Art Dubai, John Martin, who has two gallery spaces in London. As before, visitors to the exhibition will be able to vote for their favourite work. The Visitors' Choice Award is a cash prize of £10,000 to the winning artist. So your vote really counts.
