SOUTHWARK PARK | 150 YEARS | Cafe Gallery

16 - 24 August 2014 | Wednesday – Sunday from 11am – 5pm.

A Friends of Southwark Park exhibition comprising contemporary photographs submitted as part of the Southwark Park 150 photography competition, original art works by members of Rainbow Arts Group and other local artists plus historic images drawn from private collections and public archives that celebrates the anniversary of the Southwark Park Act 1864.

The exhibition will be formally opened on Saturday, 16 August by The Mayor of Southwark, Sunil Chopra, at 1:00pm and will be followed by prize giving.

Simon Hughes, local MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, said: “It is great that the Friends of Southwark Park are continuing to lead the 150th anniversary celebrations, we have huge artistic and photographic talent in the borough and both are vital parts of the record of the past and present of our wonderful park”.

Free Electro-Classical Music and Arts

In the beautiful surroundings of Dilston Grove in Southwark Park, this free event features a number of short Music and Visual performances, providing new and inventive sights & sounds in an unconventional, family-friendly environment. The festival seamlessly fuses the genres of Classical music with Electronic.

Musicians Autorotation, Kirsten Morrison and Jo Quail will be joined by Green Army Choir. Each performer brings a unique but accessible music to the stage. Visuals and Projections will be provided by VJs Craig Yamey & Leon Trimble. Musical segues will be provided by The Soap Company.

SOUTHWARK PARK AND THE WORLD WARS | Southwark Park

Sunday, 17 August 2014 | 11.00am - 12.30pm

Gary Magold and Pat Kingwell will lead a walk telling the story of Southwark Park’s place in the two world wars of the 20th century.

Meeting point: Southwark Park’s café adjacent to the Gomm Road entrance.

BEG, BORROW, STEAL 4 | Dilston Grove

In keeping with the spontaneous ethic of previous events, BEG, BORROW, STEAL 4 returns to its spiritual home, Dilston Grove, for an afternoon/evening of performance and art by WOMEN.

Featuring performances, music, craftivism, zines, stuff to buy, stuff to do, stuff to watch, stuff to drink. Riot Grrrl is our inspiration this time and we WON’T BE QUIET!
