About

The Cumberland Pencil Company is delighted to present the second Derwent Art Prize exhibition. Offering a total prize fund of £12,650, the Derwent Art Prize is an open competition for international artists, which aims to reward excellence through showcasing the very best works created in pencil. From well over a thousand entries, from 58 countries worldwide, 79 works by 61 artists have been chosen for exhibition by the panel of selectors comprising: Kate Macfarlane (Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Drawing Room); Professor Anita Taylor (artist, Co-Founder and Director of Jerwood Drawing Prize and Dean of Bath School of Art and Design) and Josh Spero (Editor of Spears Magazine and Art Critic for Tatler UK). The skilful works of charcoal, pastel, graphite, water-soluble and coloured pencils will be brought together in a diverse exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London from 15 - 20 September 2014. The London show will be followed by a tour to Trowbridge Arts, Wiltshire from 29 October — 22 November 2014, and The Pencil Museum in Cumbria from 1 December 2014 — 9 January 2015. The Prizes will be awarded at a private awards ceremony on 15 September 2014. These include a First Prize of £6,000, Second Prize of £3,500, Third Prize of £1,000 and the People's Choice Award (works in the exhibition) of £700. Two additional prizes will be awarded this year: the Young Artist Award of £500 for artists under 25 years, and an additional People's Choice Award of £700, selected from all 2014 entries and judged by visitors to the website.
