Martin Waters - On A Beach Somewhere

In 2007 Martin Waters worked as ‘artist in residence' at the Spurn Point lighthouse where he collected objects washed ashore; recording, arranging, mounting and displaying them back at his studio. Fascinated by discarded Remembrance poppies he'd find on the beach, juxtaposed with the former fortifications at Spurn, he began a new body of works reflecting on war, conflict and Remembrance, including assemblages, prints, and paintings created from tar found on the beach. Between the 9 and 16 August Martin will be creating a new installation at 20-21 using Remembrance poppies in the former St. John's Church areas of the gallery. He will return to Scunthorpe to install a work at St Lawrence Church as part of Joining up the Humber between 8 November and 21 November.
