Call for Submissions: East Midlands Graduate Project 2014
Surface Gallery is now accepting submissions for its sixth East Midlands Graduate Project, EM14; Nottingham’s only graduate residency. This opportunity supports Fine Art graduates from across the region by offering a free residency and exhibition in an independent, contemporary art space to kick-start the transition from university into the professional art world.
EM14 will provide free studio space for up to eight ambitious graduates in Surface Gallery’s recently refurbished top-floor Project Space. The residency will allow selected artists to interact and develop their practice in a stimulating and mutually supportive environment. There will be in-house critical feedback, and the chance to engage with visiting artists, such as John Newling.
The residency will culminate in a two-week group exhibition in the main gallery space. The artists will be able to participate in all aspects of event management, including the design and production of marketing materials, as well as the curatorial process. This final stage in the collective project will see the artists bring together the diverse creative practices that will comprise their exhibition.
After submitting an application, there will be a selection process after which potential candidates will be invited for an interview. Throughout the selection process, we’ll be looking for artists who we feel can make full use of the residency. The East Midlands Graduate Project will be open to practitioners of all disciplines. Applications are welcome from all recent Fine Art graduates from East Midlands universities, but also graduates now resident in the region.
Successful applicants will have twenty-four hour access during the four-week residency, and will receive complimentary wifi, and use of the kitchen area.
Application packs can be downloaded from www.surfacegallery.org
