DISCOVERY IN THE GRASS . MICHAEL PORTER . PVA, OIL, COLLAGE ON CONVAS . 1994
This is Michael Porter’s first ever survey exhibition of large-scale paintings, covering a period of almost 20 years.
Porter’s work highlights the mundane in nature; the objects one normally disregards because of their familiarity. They draw the viewer ever closer to the painted ground, hovering between the extremely literal and the overall atmosphere. The exhibition will incorporate works from two distinctly different locations – Shining Cliff in Derbyshire and the coastline of Newlyn in Cornwall. Work from the late 80’s and early 90’s will be shown alongside recent paintings produced in his Newlyn studio, giving a unique insight into how the work has evolved over this period of time.
