About

Hanmi Gallery is pleased to present Before Lines, After Lines, an exhibition of multimedia works by the South-Korean artist
Bongsu Park.
Through her work - influenced by the theories of Bergson, Deleuze and Guattari - Bongsu Park probes the fundamental questions
of life: Why do we exist? Why are we born? Where do we come from? In doing so, Park remains conscious of the long,
historic trajectory centred around these questions which those before her have explored through different perspectives, such
as science, philosophy and religion.
One of the main elements of Park's work is the ovoid ' the seed of life that carries the DNA coding of the future individual.
Park often juxtaposes the image of the egg to that of a hole, a void - a metaphor of life and death. These origins and deaths
are connected points that we travel between; in order to be born, we must destroy the world - the 'egg' - that we were created
in. Experimenting with and interweaving a wide range of media, Park employs photography, video, performance, sculpture,
installation, and drawing to shape the ideas from her inner world.

Bongsu Park was born in Pusan, South Korea, in 1981. She has studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux, France
(2007-2009), Sangmyung University, South Korea (2000-2003), and at the Slade School of Fine Arts, London (2010-2013).
She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Korea, Japan, France, and the UK, including at the Crypt Gallery, Bermondsey
Project Space and the International Art Festival Legends Urbaines in France. In 2012, Bongsu Park was invited to perform for 'Platform 1' at the Camden Arts Centre.
