The Public Domain

About

Delfina Foundation announces its next thematic programme 'The Public Domain', which brings together artists, activists, architects and curators in residence and within the context of an open studio and an evolving exhibition. The notions of the public and public space have been traditionally associated with the idea of collective interest and civic participation. Today, however, public spaces throughout the world are being increasingly restricted through privatization and institutional powers obsessed with security, surveillance and control. Meanwhile, the Internet and social media has expanded the notion of the public sphere, from the physical to the virtual. At times, an action in one sphere affects the other: a flash mob starts with a tweet, a Facebook campaign fights the closure of a park, and an Instagram image fuels a revolution. Delfina Foundation's new thematic residencies and public programmes aims to create a focused environment for UK-based and international practitioners, as well as the public-at-large, to explore wide-ranging issues related to the commons and public space. The Open Studio: 28/4/14 — 20/6/14 Delfina Foundation will transform its project space into an open studio, bringing international and UK practitioners together with the public. The Open Studio will feature both unfinished and finished artworks, research materials, books and films and videos that serve as starting points for the investigations taking place at the Foundation. The Open studio will feature works from past and current resident artists and architects including IŠ Š¸à„±l Eà„Š¸rikavuk, Decolonizing Architecture Art Residency, Keg de Souza, Maxime Hourani, Mosireen Collective, Azin Feizabadi, Larissa Sansour and more. Opening times: 28/04 — 20/06/2014, Mon to Sat, 12:00-18:00 FREE ENTRY Plus talks, screenings, performance, picnics, panel discussions, interventions, dinners and more… Please check www.delfinafoundation.com for full listings of public events. The Public Domain is made possible with the support of Delfina Foundation's individual patrons and institutional partners: Australia Council for the Arts, British Council, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, SAHA, Magic of Persia, and Tate Modern.
